Before WCCO, the local CBS station, came to talk to me about whether people still read magazines, I did a quick check of periodicals mail volume with the USPS. It turns out that volume has been fairly steady over the past 10 years or so. I know that newsstand sales are down significantly. Most of the trend measurements point to the fact that larger magazines are seeing declines in readership, and sometimes cuts in circulation are very deliberately tied to a drop in ad revenue. But readers are still very passionate about their special interest magazines.
